Aged in oak barrels (10% new) for 8 to 12 months, this wine will open up properly within the next 3 - 5 years. With blackberry and pepper on the nose, it tastes delicious with dishes like sweet potato tarte tatin with chilli and basil dressing.
Our pride and joy... a very special and unique wine made in Beaujolais by Jean-Marc Lafont, Kristian and two other friends. Wooded in 1st, 2nd and 3rd fill Bourgogne barrels. Nicely spicy aromas, with hints of cherries and clove. Not overwhelming in the mouth, but rather gently spicy, with a definite fruity appeal. More northern Rhône styled. We were suprised and delighted !
This fine wine can lie from 4 to 7 years, and will go well with loin of lamb, white meat and saddle of rabbit. It has an expressive nose of spice, fruit and jam, with vanilla, tobacco, cocoa and liquorice.
This great wine's sweet nose shows pronounced boysenberries, kirsch, black olive and hints of star anise. Confident New World richness with creamy dark fruit and sweet spice, matched with polished tannins. Has a dash of Viognier.
Named after The Ridge vineyard on the Robertson farm, where unique soil encompasses a 30cm layer of red Karoo earth on hard shale, this single vineyard is registered, producing an exclusive wine. The wine was matured for 16 months in French and American oak, and this expressive wine is deeply complex yet accessible. Expect aromas of blackberry, pepper and dark chocolate, smoky meat and fynbos. A broad, juicy offers coffee and liquorice flavours, length and finesse. Platter guide : 4.5*
The vineyard is farmed organically and is dry-land. The soil is decomposed granite and yields 4t/ha. After rough sorting, the grapes were fermented in large, open-top concrete fermenters and any crushing was done by foot. The grapes were allowed to finish malolactic fermentation in old 225L casks for 11 months. The wine was blended into a large concrete tank where it stayed for another 7 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Note the wine's vibrant violet / raspberry hue, and its garrigue
A serious wine. Deep ruby / purple colour. Aromas of charcoal, liquorice, black truffles, black currant. On the palate are deep flavours, fleshy, velvety. Complex. Wine Advocate – 90 points.
